If you haven't heard of the Grates by now, I think it's about time you did. The backdrop of friday nights show was nostalgic of a 5th year old's birthday party, balloons and all (but without the cake). Pae was quite the gymnast, kangaroo, performer and vocalist that night. The enthusiasm and energy reminded me of the duracell bunny, or maybe it was those animal noises. It shows when you've been touring with We Are Scientists, the Go! Team and Sleater-Kinney (just to name a few). I remember a somewhat sedate Pae and a sick Alana, the last time I caught them and boy, have they come far. Photos from friday night are here:

It as if this year couldn't be any better, the 2006 lineup for Splendor in the Grass has been announced today and as Big Kev would say, "I'm Excited!" At the moment the first acts to be confirmed are Sonic Youth, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah!, Scissor Sisters, Death Cab for Cutie, Snow Patrol, The Grates, The Presets and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs! This can only mean one thing ... sideshow alley is gonna be buzzing again.
