Tour News Space Cadets

Exciting tour news, fellow punters!

NY rockers The Liars and swedish rockers, the Shout Out Louds (above) are coming to open Rebel Rebel-another program happening at HOME nightclub. Tickets can be puchased here. The only thing i'm hoping for is they both do other gigs in and around sydney, because Home doesn't do their music justice. It just confuses me that nightclubs are reaping in really good international acts but their venue ... sucks! and doesn't allow punks like me, wearing chucks, ripped jeans and a band shirt into the venue. I HOPE THEY MOVE IT TO THE METRO!

Also rumoured to tour are fellow NY rockers the Yeah, yeah, yeahs! who are supposedly here in June/July and that can only mean one thing...that they're on the bill to play at Splendor in the Grass which might i add, hasn't been announced yet. Also their album Show Your Bones will be released here on 1 April.

I'll also post some mp3s a.s.a.p.

Meanwhile, next week's gig list is fairly short.

28/03
Laura Imbruglia 1pm @ Manning Bar (USYD) free
30/03
The Incubator Expatriate The Devoted Few @ Manning Bar (USYD), $5 (member) - $10 (+ bf)
1/04
The Drones @ Annandale Hotel, NSW, $10 (+ bf) - $12 (at door)

I heart ...

I was stalked by a rainbow yesterday. it was strange. and i wasn't under any illicit drugs of sorts.

Photo taken from my window, yesterday.

It was an odd feeling walking into a gig with the venue not even half full by the time the second supports were on. Well, I Heart Hiroshima put on a mean set and those that haven't bought tix to the Grates yet, DO IT NOW. It was also my first gig where i got a photo pass. I knew that some how things always go wrong and they sure did. Firstly, i drank. Big, big mistake and Two, wait there is no two. Drinking and photography just don't mix. Here judge for yourself. Well, I had fun and that's the important thing.

Ladies and Germs

It's as if I never grew up, I still have a fascination with toys! and here are some germs you can snuggle with. Maybe you can safely give someone syphilis, salmonella, or just bad breath this easter or st. patricks day. Wouldn't it feel great hugging diseases? I don't think they're available here in Oz yet, but its worth a mention! Also another cool toy is Plastic Pork. A collection of all things small and wonderful, these are plush characters of body bits, food, ninjas, animals, etc. and arrive in a chinese takeaway box. My favourite is Junky Trunky (the blue thing) only because he's (well i assumed it was a he) got booty. Plus there's heaps of other wacky and wonderful toys on that site, just click on link below.

Mp3's anyone?

In the spirit of the Grates, I have posted one of their songs up. Download Rock Boys
Also on Triple J, a free Jens Lekman mp3 is also available here.

Recently, I have discovered Bit Torrents. These allow you download large files (usually full music albums) as seperate parts and once its all finished (if cable connection, takes approx 15mins for a 45MB album) it's assembled. However, after downloading is finished seeding (sharing) of that file(s) is required. Leechers are those that don't share (selfish buggers!) Here is a list of Bit Torrent sites, the majority are safe but be careful. You've been warned!

Here are torrents that i'll direct you to (note: they're all music files)
Death Cab for Cutie - Plans
Hard-Fi - Stars of CCTV
Radiohead - All 6 alums (OK Computer, Amnesiac, Pablo Honey, Hail to the Thief, The Bends, Kid A)

Torrents are great because (a) the musician(s) are either rich or too famous enough, and you don't want them to get a bigger head(s). (b) you like them and their music but you think your dough is better off supporting smaller/independent bands. Also your $$, will eventually go their way as you go to their gigs. So there is still some love left for commercial (and highly successful) bands.

CDs and Gigs for week 3

(refer to Uni semester, to me its the most logical week system)

Since the sad death of my iPod, I have rediscovered this thing called a record store. Shops like JB, Red Eye and Gifted, that sell you legal music in packaging. Hooray for packaging! In the CD player this week:

I Heart Hiroshima's EP is not available on iTunes yet but if you check your local record store, it should be there. Note: the BSS album is very infectious, especially the song Hotel. Honestly, it's been in my CD player for a while now.

15/03
Taking Back Sunday @ the Roundhouse, Sold Out
16/03
The Camels, The Crustaceans, Jane Vs World @ Manning Bar, USYD, $10
17/03
The Pictures, The Exploders @ Spectrum
Sarah McLeod, Sascha Klave @ The Vanguard, $12 (+ bf)
It's a quite one this week.

The Dolls Come Back to Sydney

Now i can all confirm for you kiddies that I wasn't asleep when the Dresden Dolls announced shows for oz; or should i say SHOW. They're only playing ONE show and its only for us sydney-siders. DD are playing at 34B Burlesque on Oxford St, Darlinghurst (which i didn't even know existed).

Grates for World Domination

The word on the grapevine is those crazy kids, the Grates, will be touring home soon, says their record label dew process (courtesy of an eCard). I've seen them once but only as supports and they were awesome! I met Patience (in the green dress) in the bathroom of that gig and also Conan (the keyboardist, who isn't in the photo above). Their debut album is out Aprill 11, one album I've anticipated for some time now and would probably be a strong contender for this year's J award. Keep your eyes and ears open! Friends of the Grates, I Heart Hiroshima are also touring in March with Spod and Sekiden. Now go and spread the good news, i.e. send the eCard to everyone you know!

Burning Ears

Broken Social Scene @ the Metro 04/03/06

Broken Social Scene @ the Metro 04/03/06

Broken Social Scene @ the Metro 04/03/06

What bloody great weekend! Broken Social Scene on saturday night, the Laneway fest. the other night. Although there were a few things that bugged me (a) since sydney was last on the BSS tour there were absolutely no small shirts left. (b) getting a response from the st. jeromes organisers saying that absolutely NO cameras allowed except for the pros. (c) assumed professional photographers shooting with a P&S camera? what is up with that?! (d) Emily & Leslie didn't make it out to oz with the BSS crew. On the upside I got the BSS setlist from the metro gig, one of Hannah's (the Gossip) drum stick, met 3/8 of my idols (arch. in helsinki) & the chaps from the Gossip and was totally oblivious to reality for two nights. I forgot about uni untill the dreaded monday morning arrived with the beginnings of "I'm gonna be sick" and "why does my head hurt so much?" All of which i took as indicators of good nights and fun. My ears tell me i'm getting older. Watching the first act (pretty girls make graves) my ears started to give way to the oh so beautiful sound of a prolonged ringing. I think it's about time to purchase myself a set of ear plugs. I didn't take any photos at St. Jeromes (and yes it was painful missing out on such a great opportunity) but here are some more from Saturday.

Final year at school: 0 All-nighters
1st year at uni: 7 All-nighters
1st week back, into 2nd year at uni: 1 All-nighters
To hear whining and see stress on the faces of 2nd year kids who thought, it justs get easier after 1st year: Priceless

This is something Mastercard/Visa can't fix for sure. I can't believe i wasted a whole four months anxiously waiting for this dramatic influx of work to arrive. Now it has and I'm whining. Dammit! I should get back to the imagined sections of this dam house, which is apparently well-known but when you research it in databases, there is only ONE result. And that result is an essay, no plans, no sections, nothing but horrible photos.
