Bath Time (in Switzerland)

Vals Therme (on the right), Originally uploaded by archigab

To my fellow architecture students, those that have to design bathhouses, here's something to ponder about - a trip to Zumthor's Vals Therme in Switzerland. It would only cost US $250, presuming that's only accomodation, not entry into the baths. For more info see the link. If only ...

An odd but fitting couple

Photos from Barneys Cremaster Series

While flicking though numerous sites, Sydney has now got a decent architectural blog. gravestmor is almost is an online equivalent to that of Metropolis is to NYC. Anyway it directed me to a trailer of what looks like an art piece for MOMA or something. Starring Bjork and Matthew Barney, two very unique artists and together form the stars in Apple have numerous trailors to have a look at.

Not everyone likes the Stones

Before we boogie down to what's in and around ol' Sydney town, why isn't the Stones gig sold out?

The answer may well and truly be because:
(a) It's at Telstra Stadium, which is HUGE, and the acoustics ... aren't that great.
(b) The sale of tickets were a month before the gig. That and for a good seat in that darn stadium, you're looking at around the $150 mark.
(c) there are better things to do on a Tuesday night.
(d) all of the above.

12/04
Sigur Ros 8pm, @ Enmore Theatre, SOLD OUT.
13/04
The Beautiful Girls 7pm, @ Manning Bar, USYD
Damien Marley, Femi Kuti 8pm, @ Enmore Theatre, $74 (+ bf)
Hawksley Workman, Andy Clockwise 8pm, @ The Vanguard, $20
Clare Bowditch (she's supporting the guy who sings you're beautiful, you're beautiful, ... ) Hordern Pavilion, $78.75 (+ bf)
14/04
The Darkness, After The Fall @ The Big Top at Luna Park, Milsons Point, NSW, $71.50
Zeke, The Blacklist, Jed Whitey @ Empire Hotel, Annandale

And to no surprise, the Arctic Monkeys gig at the Enmore was sold out in MINUTES. They are however announcing a 2nd show.

It's Almost Holiday Time

Here we go for this week's gigs:

6/04
Decoder Ring, Fourplay 7pm, Manning Bar (USYD)
7/04
The (International) Noise Conspiracy, Damn Arms 8pm, Annandale Hotel,$39.60 (+ bf)
The Casanovas, The Model School 8.30pm, Hopetoun Hotel, $15
Riff Random, The Mercy Arms, Teenagers in Tokyo 8pm, Spectrum, $10
8/04
Hilltop Hoods, Funkoars, Cross Bred Mongrels, Roundhouse, $22 (+ bf) all ages
Here's one for those still lovin' their classic rock
Hotel California: The Eagles Tribute 9pm, The Basement, $22 (+ bf)
If you miss the (Int) Noise Conspiracy on Friday, they are also playing again on Saturday for the same price, and same place.
The most hyped-up band is coming to Oz and NZ. So to all the Arctic Monkeys followers: THE TIX FOR THEIR SHOWS GO ON SALE THIS FRIDAY (7 APR). And any music buff would know that these would be the hottest tickets in town and that all of their gigs will sell out.
On another front, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs album Show Your Bones, would have to be my music highlight so far, this year. Notable songs wouls be Dudley (which sounds almost like a nusery rhyme melody), Way Out and Honeybear (I can see this track being played in Indie clubs. And you can dance to this song as well!).
And ...
I have joined the Gibson Les Paul realm - it's almost heaven, but it's the realm where you feel like pulling off a Jimmy Page solo or one of Slash's riffs. It's a guitar that infects and inspires you that it becomes a material marriage - you just don't want to put it down. Here is more info at Gibson's site. For some strange reason, music shops like Allens and Music City Sydney are dropping their prices for Gibson (and Fender) guitars. SO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT! I certainly did.
